Even though there is a lot of fantastic information below – at this stage I am only carrying the ‘Derivan’ products. Matisse Derivan is an Australian manufacturer of the highest quality acrylic artist paints. From the finest quality artists' acrylic colours, to the best student quality paints, use Matisse Derivan. They also make acrylic painting mediums and varnishes, acrylic inks, face paint, products for print-makers such as block inks, relief inks, silk screen printing inks and innovative artists’ products like Liquid Pencil. Matisse is a professional artist acrylic colour of international standard. It is water-resistant, permanent and totally flexible in light and heavy impasto applications. Matisse has a versatile range of permanent artist colours of maximum light exposure standard. Matisse incorporates a selected range of permanent artist quality painting mediums which allow for all basic techniques encountered in acrylic painting. Formulations of Matisse, based on current chemical know-how combined with cutting edge technology, have produced a quality impasto, more flexible paint, superior to the brand you are probably using now.
We often get asked by people how the name Matisse Derivan
came to be. Here's how... Derivan: Legend has it that the name Derivan came about when
the Company was first trying to register its name around the world. The firm
employed to register the trademark around the world came back and said the name
that had been chosen was not available in several countries and suggested it
would be prudent to choose a few names to give them some lee-way. So where does
Derivan come from ..apparently it is a derivative of derivative !!!!!! Matisse: Once again legend has it that the project name was
Matisse, each time a new range is in the research and development phase it is
given a name (or nowadays it tends to be a number). As one of the people first
involved with the project was obsessed with the work of Henri Matisse the
project was given this name...and it stuck! THE MATISSE DERIVAN LOGO Why
does the Logo look the way it does? The
Matisse part of the logo represents the professional artist paint range -
stable, balanced, robust and long lasting. This is the way the logo has been
represented for many years so it was deemed necessary to keep the same font and
design. The
new Derivan side of the logo represents the fun side of our products! The
traditional format of the font of the word Derivan has been used since the
1970's however its new look created in 2004 sees it encased in a splash of
paint. The
juxtaposition of the two logos symbolizes the products and the company -
committed to consistent high quality manufacture of contemporary and exciting
products.
